- Summary
-
The extraordinary celebrity of Edmond Rostand and his play Cyrano de Bergerac, in France and abroad, in 1897 as today, paradoxically goes with a critical lack of knowledge regarding this author's multifaceted work. A multidisciplinary team of twenty researchers explores here the different aspects of Rostand's theatrical, poetic and architectural work, by highlighting its spectacular dimension, its literary resonances, the way in which it is rooted in a complex time and how it broadly extends to cinema and comics. One hundred years after Rostand's death, we never cease to rediscover a popular, though underestimated artist who has long been the victim of prejudice and misunderstanding.
