- Summary
-
Scotland is intrinsically linked to water. With contributions from a range of Scottish studies scholars, this book is neverthelessintended for a wide readership. It first provides an overview of the geographical elements that impact bodies and forms of water in Scotland, i.e. the meteorological, geological and geographical specificities connected to water. Next, it analyses the influence of this natural element on creative culture in Scotland, especially through its depiction in literary, linguistic and artistic productions. Finally, this book explores the role of water in Scottish history, in particular, the uses of water over the centuries, as well as the importance of water to Scotland's future through a close examination of current debates, questions, and issues linked to the preservation of the environment and natural resources.
