- Summary
-
Joseph Déjacque (1821-1865), a Parisian poet-worker exiled in England and then in the United States, invented the word "libertarian" in a letter to Proudhon. It was in 1857, in New Orleans. He had sharpened his activist and poet writing since 1847-1848 in revolutionary writings published here for the first time. His thinking is studied through multidisciplinary contributions of this volume in its entire anti-authoritarian, anti-capitalist, feminist and anti-slavery amplitude. The ensemble highlights the transatlantic breath, the visionary intensity and the lively tensions of an extraordinary biographical, political, intellectual and literary journey.
