L’abbaye de Baume-les-Messieurs (Jura) de l’an mil au XVIIIe siècle

The Benedictine abbey of Baume-les-Messieurs (Jura) escaped the major monastic reconstructions of the modern era, as well as the destruction of the French Revolution. Its conventual buildings are the result of several construction campaigns, with the earliest preserved structures dating from around the year 1000. This rich archaeological and architectural potential enables us to understand and trace the evolution of the topography and buildings of one of the oldest and most prestigious abbeys in the Besançon diocese, within a chronological arc that stretches from the construction of the church in the 11th century to the abandonment of regular life in the 17th century.
