La notion de vulnérabilité se diffuse dans les sciences humaines et sociales depuis quelques années. Elle n’est pas sans poser problème comme en son temps la notion d’exclusion. Le pari de cet ouvrage est de montrer qu’en mettant en avant la question des ressources des familles, leurs précarités, elle ouvre pour les chercheurs et les professionnels une possibilité de renouveler leurs regards sur celles-ci c’est-à-dire à passer d’une analyse fondée sur les défaillances et une certaine psychologisation à une analyse qui prend en compte les capacités, les contextes, les environnements. La première partie du livre cherche à préciser les contours, les usages de la notion de vulnérabilité en protection de l’enfance. La deuxième partie réunit différents travaux de recherche pour décrire certains aspects de la vulnérabilité des familles, d’interroger des pratiques et ouvrir des perspectives en termes de participation des enfants et des familles à la définition des projets qui les concerne.
