Summary

The book includes eleven contributions, eight of which deal with Antiquity and three with the modern and contemporary world, asking methodological questions while integrating factual data. Through each of them, the aim is to reexamine the problem of slavery by comparing it with research findings in fields as varied as migration, exploitation and labour issues. In fact, it is a question of taking stock of what is known today about slavery at a time when it affects more than 40 million people throughout the world and in sectors of activity that are sometimes unsuspected.
