- Summary
-
In his recent book Qu’est-ce que la mythologie grecque (What is Greek mythology?), Claude Calame notes the “inexhaustible semantic and figurative richness of the stories we identify as mythical”. Myth, by nature polysemic, is thus the business of each generation that inherits it and transposes it into new cultural areas and perspectives, thus endlessly recreating its form and meaning.
It is the processes at work in this permanent recreation – assimilation, comparison, superposition, mythological concatenation – that we intend to study in this volume over the long term, from Greco-Roman antiquity to the 17th century, in France and England.
